She worked as an IRS Tax Attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel from 1997 to 2005. As an IRS Tax Attorney, she litigated cases in the United States Tax Court on behalf of the IRS, provided legal advice to IRS revenue agents during tax audits, represented the IRS in fast-tract meetings with IRS Appeals, and negotiated and drafted settlements agreements. She also advised the IRS when taxpayers filed for bankruptcy and when the IRS imposed liens and levies on the property of taxpayers.
